Jimmy Fallon Requests Exemption from BAYC Trademark Dispute
Jimmy Fallon has requested an exemption from the ongoing trademark dispute between the BAYC and Blur. While the legal affairs are being sorted out, the Non-Fungible Token (NFT) market has seen a three-month high, and according to Newsweek, Blur is responsible for this boom.
The trademark dispute between BAYC, the San Diego-based alternative rock band, and Blur revolves around the ownership of the musical project's name. BAYC has owned it since 2014 and has released a few albums under the name, while Blur is an open-source blockchain-based audio protocol.
On March 17, the US Copyright Office added a 'provisional refusal' to the application that Blur made in December 2020 to trademark its name, citing the earlier claim by BAYC. When contacted by Cointelegraph, Blur CEO Aron Katz stated that the company was working to resolve this "amicably" with the band.
Jimmy Fallon, famous for his work as a comedian and as the host of 'The Tonight Show', is now involved in this trademark dispute, according to the records at IPScan. While the details of the case are unknown, it appears that Fallon has requested an exemption. If the request is granted, he could be allowed to use the name while the two parties continue the legal battle over ownership.
